The Department of Nuclear Medicine is looking for a

PhD position (m/f/d)

PhD position: Development of novel theranostic hybrid molecules for preoperative imaging and intraoperative fluorescence detection of cancer
The PhD position is available at the University Medical Center Freiburg, Department of Nuclear Medicine, focusing on the identification of novel hybrid radiopharmaceuticals (www.uniklinik-freiburg.de/nuklearmedizin/radiopharmakaentwicklung). The clinically oriented research platform includes the identification and evaluation of novel radiopharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography (PET) and radionuclide therapy. The multidisciplinary and translational focus is supported by the direct association with the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg and the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK). The Candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary field encompassing pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biotechnology, medicine, and biology. Innovative biotechnological and chemical methods will be used to identify novel compounds.
The specific topic of the current doctoral thesis deals with the identification of novel drug candidates suitable for cancer-specific preoperative imaging and intraoperative fluorescence guidance. Within the scope of the project, cancer-specific hybrid molecules will be developed including their detailed preclinical characterization finally leading to clinical translation. The project is highly interdisciplinary emphasized by a broad spectrum of methods in biotechnology, biochemistry and molecular biology. The approaches applied will result in novel diagnostic procedures and potentially new therapeutic options for the treatment of cancer.
We are looking for candidates with interest in challenging and application-oriented research holding a degree in a relevant discipline e.g. pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, biology, molecular medicine.
Please hand in:
  • Letter of intent
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Certified copies of your qualifying university degrees with grades
  • Suggestion of two referees with contact details
The position is funded 36 months. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L (65 %).
