The Translational Metabolomics Core Facility at the University Children’s Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, University of Freiburg, is looking for a 

Postdoctoral Researcher in Metabolomics specialized in Mass Spectrometry Metabolomics (m/f/d)

The Translational Metabolomics Core Facility operates within the Research Division of the Center of Metabolism, Children’s Hospital, University of Freiburg, Germany. The Center of Metabolism comprises a multidisciplinary team of > 30 clinicians, scientists, and technical experts who collaborate internally and externally in diagnostics, patient care, translational research and basic science. Scientific work in our team is transdisciplinary, and includes currently funded collaborations with research groups in Nephrology, Immunology, Cancer and Inborn Errors of Metabolism.

Job Description :

  • the primary role of the postdoctoral researcher will be the operation of an untargeted LC-MS metabolomics platform
  • the postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the development of new LC-MS methods, the establishment of data collection-to-data analysis workflows, and the preparation of result reports 
  • you will lead specific metabolomic projects with a strong focus on inborn errors of human metabolism and cooperate proactively with our existing platform of targeted metabolomics and with our diagnostic team
  • the postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) will prepare publications and research grant applications, and present results at conferences, symposia and other research events
  • a personalized plan toward either career consolidation or development toward independence in the field of metabolomics will be supported, according to the candidate’s career stage
  • habilitation is strongly supported

Applicant requirements:

  • a Ph.D. in metabolomics, biochemistry, chemistry or computational biology
  • Publications in the field of untargeted metabolomics
  • hands-on experience with untargeted mass spectrometry metabolomics
  • demonstrated fluency in R, Python or MATLAB for signal processing and data analysis 
  • proficient communication in English and preferentially in German
  • outstanding interpersonal skills, including team-work capacity
  • a solution-oriented, executive mindset
Duration: 2 years, with the option of renewal
Start date: as soon as possible
Dedication: 100 %
